KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER PARTNERSHIPS. A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) involves three partners – a company, the university and a graduate, known as the Associate. A KTP project is designed to help your company access and embed new and innovative skills, technology and know-how to undertake a specific project for commercial growth. The Associate is employed by the university but located full-time at your company premises and is supervised by a company manager and university academic with the research expertise relevant for the project and business. Projects last between 12 to 36 months and are part-funded by the government and Innovate UK manages the programme.

For a small or medium-sized business, funding will cover two-thirds of the project cost, leaving an average of around £28,000 a year for the company to pay. For a larger company, funding will cover around half of the project cost, leaving an average of around £40,000 a year to pay. Businesses who participate in a KTP consistently report wide-ranging benefits including growth, improved business performance, competitive advantage, increased productivity and access to new markets, including export. If you’re interested in finding out more about how a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Northumbria University could benefit your organisation, please contact us today. We’ll help you explore your options and find the right solution.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & COMMERCIALISATION. With a global reputation for academic quality, we conduct ground-breaking research, which can lead to new discoveries and technologies. Working in partnership with your business, we create commercial opportunities to licence in and develop new intellectual property (IP), together finding ways to apply new knowledge and innovations enabling maximum impact on your business. We have a portfolio of technologies available for licence and we connect with businesses who are interested in licencing IP to develop new and existing products and processes and gain a competitive advantage. Our team has the expertise in taking new research findings and working with businesses to turn them into commercial realities. We can provide advice on IP protection, including patents, arrange licensing deals and spin-out opportunities. By shaping solutions for the challenges of the future, the benefits for all parties can be far-reaching. 6
